Not necessarily, but older pipework should be assessed before a new boiler is connected. Age alone does not mean all pipes need replacing, yet corrosion, previous alterations, poor joints, restricted sections or hidden leaks can become more obvious when a heating system is cleaned, repressurised or changed.
Glasgow has many older flats and houses where heating systems have been modified over decades. The survey should therefore look beyond the boiler itself and identify visible pipework condition, radiator performance and signs of recurring pressure loss or poor circulation.
Doherty's boiler page specifically notes that unexpected defects in older pipework can affect cost and timescale. If remedial work is needed, it is better to identify it before or during the replacement than to blame a new boiler for an existing system fault.
