Answer

A radiator that is warm at the bottom but cold across the top often contains trapped air. Bleeding the radiator may restore full circulation if air is the only problem. Follow the boiler and radiator instructions, allow the system to cool and be prepared to check boiler pressure afterwards because bleeding can reduce system pressure.

If radiators repeatedly fill with air, the cause should be investigated rather than endlessly bleeding them. Persistent air can indicate a wider circulation, pressure or system issue.

Where several radiators in a Glasgow property are affected, the heating system may also need balancing or further checks. Doherty's boiler and heating service can assess radiators, controls and circulation as part of a wider heating-system diagnosis.
