A frozen condensate pipe can stop a condensing boiler during very cold weather, particularly where part of the drain runs externally. The boiler may show a fault code or make gurgling noises because condensate cannot discharge correctly.
Follow the boiler manufacturer's user guidance. If the frozen section is safely accessible, gentle warming with warm—not boiling—water may be recommended by some manufacturers. Do not use a naked flame, boiling water or attempt to dismantle the boiler.
If freezing keeps happening, the condensate route should be reviewed because insulation, pipe size or routing may need improvement. Glasgow winter temperatures make this worth addressing rather than treating every freeze as an isolated event. Doherty's boiler repair and installation service can assess the condensate route as part of the heating system.
