For most people, Energy Saving Trust suggests setting the room thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature, typically somewhere around 18°C to 21°C. The right point within that range depends on the occupants, the room and how the home is used.
Turning the thermostat much higher does not make the boiler heat the room faster; it simply tells the heating to continue until a higher temperature is reached. On colder Glasgow days, the property may take longer to reach the target, so adjusting the heating schedule can be more useful than raising the thermostat excessively.
If some rooms overheat while others remain cold, look at TRVs, radiator balancing and system performance rather than relying on one higher thermostat setting. Doherty's heating work includes controls and radiator considerations alongside boiler services.
